Bible in 90 Days 103rd day check-in with Mom's Toolbox

I finished on Friday, April 15th! I am so thrilled!
It took 103 days.
Thank you so much, Group 29 and Kendra, for your encouragement and prayers!
(Mom's Toolbox assigned us to groups and mentors. The accountability was crucial! I think I would have given up without it.)

Bible in 90 Days thirteenth week check-in with Mom's Toolbox

March 29, 2011
I am so excited for all of you who are almost done! Congratulations!
I fell even futher behind this last week. I’m w-a-y back in Mark. Still reading and I will get done when I get done. I would appreciate any prayers to help me push to get it done and help me see small bits of time that I can use to read.

Bible in 90 Days tenth week, mid-week update
March 11, 2011
I know it is not a check in day, but I just wanted to say that…
I am through Isaiah, Jeremiah and Lamentations! That was tough, tough, tough for me. Parts of it are beautiful, but it was still hard.
I figured out that Isaiah, Jeremiah and Lamentations are 121 pages and Ezekiel, Daniel and all the minor prophets are 106 pages. So in addition to being 2/3 the way through the Bible, I am over half-way through those prophets.
It occurs to me that I should pray to have my eyes opened to the prophets….

- I already pray briefly before I read. I read a stanza of Psalm 119, moving a little sticky arrow each time. What I think I need to do is ask God to make me love the prophets and cause the prophets to be meaningful to me. I am still a week to a week and a half behind.

Bible in 90 Days eleventh week check-in with Mom's Toolbox
I am so late in checking in!
This week is Spring Break and I am all turned around. I keep feeling like it is Saturday and tomorrow is Sunday!
I am still working on it, but judging from the posts, I think I am bringing up the rear!
Still in the Minor Prophets, but I can see that New Testament in the distance…. I addition to my time being turned around, I wanted to be able to sayI had made it to the New Testament, so there was some procrastination in posting my check-in and some pride going on, too. Yuck.
My 55-year-old eyes need new glasses and it is slowing me down! I put on some of those magnifiers and wow! What a difference. Reading speed immediately picked up.
The prophets’ words are already difficult because of what they say and how they say it. When you can’t really see the words clearly, it is even slower going! I should be able to say I’m in the NT at our check-in next week.

Bible in 90 Days tenth week check-in with Mom's Toolbox
March 7, 2011
Checking in. I’m still reading and still behind, but at least I am consistent (sheepish grin).
But you know what? At least I am doing this and doing this, even if behind, is better than not doing it!
I have so many blessings from this, but most of all is kind of an intangible difference in my day-to-day spirituality. I have decided that I am someone who needs large portions of scripture daily. (I’ve never gotten much out of most daily devotionals with just a few scriptures to read. With the big exception of My Utmost for His Highest. That is a great one!)
So I may be someone who gets the challenge done, but in 95 or 100 days. God’s will be done!
I almost decided to give up last night. (Can you believe it?) Then I thought about how happy that would make the enemy….

Bible in 90 Days ninth week check-in with Mom's Toolbox
February 28, 2011
I am still behind, but still reading. I did get frustrated with being behind over the weekend and ended up not reading much on Sunday.
I *might* use some of my BSF reading (done since the challenge started) just to give me a little help, but it will not be that much and I really want to do the reading cover-to-cover.
I am about a week behind. It is hard to catch up!

Bible in 90 Days eighth week check-in with Mom's Toolbox

Still reading…
Still behind…
but catching up!
I was as much as nine or ten days behind at one point. Now, I am on day 45 and should be on 51; six days behind.
I’m studying Isaiah in BSF, so I am looking forward to reading that. I think it will go faster for me since I have been studying it since the fall.

Bible in 90 Days seventh week check-in with Mom's Toolbox

February 14, 2011
Still reading! (and still behind…)
I’m in the middle of day 36 and just beginning Job.
I’m tracking how much I read most days. I’ve been all over the place, from reading nothing or just three or four pages, to one day reading 29 pages. (I just turned my bookmark over and write down the day and date, then leave a space and write where I start. When I’m done, fill in the space and do the math. )
Diligence has to stay high for this project! I also have to rely on God because it is very obvious that I cannot do it on my own!

Bible in 90 Days fifth week check-in with Mom's Toolbox

February 1, 2011
I am late checking in. Sorry!
Still behind. :-( Maybe three days? Need to press forward!
I realized that I have taken up some of the things I set aside to do this: mainly computer time (reading blogs among other things), newspaper and some TV (The Biggest Loser and Masterpiece Theater). I confessing here so that I’ll be willing to give those up again.
Also, since I didn’t build in an hour a day to read, I really do have to be diligent about reading at every available moment and I slacked off on that.
Praying for better things this week!
Leah
P.S. I am far enough behind that I don’t think I’ll be caught up by next week. I am aiming for the Monday after that, February 14th.

Bible in 90 Days fourth week check-in with Mom's Toolbox

January 24, 2011
Again, I got a couple of days behind.
But I am still reading.
My plan is to make every effort to read at least 12 pages each day, but to really try to catch up by check in next week. That means I need to read the 12 pages a day, plus an additional 3 and a half pages. If I get a big chunk of time, I will read.
I am also doing a Bible study (BSF), so I am trying to keep up with that, too.
I don’t have a current blog post because I don’t feel like I have time to do that.
My husband is out of town this week, so that will add some challenges to my day.
If I stay on track (whether I make up the lost readings or not–if I do not get further behind) then I will know it is God’s doing! Is anything impossible for Him? No!

Bible in 90 Days third week check-in with Mom's Toolbox

January 18, 2011
I am almost caught up! I only need to read four pages to finish today’s selection.
I was behind for four or five days. The prayers for the lost several days ago really helped me because I was starting to tell myself that I was too busy to do this; see, already behind and only second week and so on. But my attitude changed and I know it was the prayers!
Also, someone said she got caught up by reading every spare moment for several days. That comment was inspiration for me!
Amy said:
For those who are finding the time, what are you cutting? How have you shifted your schedule? Please let us know in the comments so others can learn from your ideas.
I was planning to cut out reading the newspaper, but found myself reading it the last few days. It is better if I don’t, or only skim it.
I have given up my fiction reading.
I had thought about committing to a full hour of prayer toward the end of last year, but decided that I couldn’t do that and this reading. I am still praying, but for about 15 minutes a day, plus spontaneous prayers throughout the day and prayers while reading.
I am wanting to memorize scripture and hope to memorize two scriptures a month, but it is a lower priority than the reading. Eventually, I would like to memorize more than that!
There are two other things that I am cutting out, but I didn’t really plan to….
Putting up the Christmas decorations. Can you believe that they are still out! Tomorrow!
Housework. I’m doing some but not all that I want. I’m going to work on that one, too.
I mentioned my headaches in my last post and they are better. Thanks for the prayers. I also decided to see a chiropractor and that seems to be helping. I’ve suffered off and on for over 35 years.
Sorry, I wrote a blog post rather than a comment. Going to read now so I can finish those pages before midnight. :-)

Bible in 90 Days second week check-in with Mom's Toolbox

January 11, 2011
Sorry I didn’t check in yesterday. I’ve lost some time due to headaches over the last four days.
I’m checking in on day 9 and I am behind one day; that is, I need to read day 8 and day 9′s readings. (Clarifying for myself!)
I managed to stay on track or ahead until Sunday. Then somehow my bookmark and tiny post-it note (with an arrow on it pointing to the next reading) didn’t get moved up to the right spot. I started reading and thought it seemed familiar. After a short while, I was certain I had already read the passage, but I had no idea where I should be, so I just kept going. I needed to read that passage twice for some reason, including the possibility of not getting too proud for being ahead!
Okay, I just read the recent comments…. (funny that I felt the need to do that at this point in my own post)
….and realize that maybe I didn’t lose my place after all. Goodness, I am glad I didn’t skip ahead!
This is hard — reading twelve pages of the Bible attentively. But so worth it!
I’m blogging about it a little, too.
Now, to go and read so that I can get caught up! Reading Leviticus 1 through 26 (and since Leviticus only has 27 chapters, I may just try to read it all today!).
Hey, about Job:
The Bible’s section titles often say who is talking. I’m not always in the habit of reading those or if I do, I kind of skim over them. But I heard about the idea of highlighting the the names of the speakers different colors in Song of Solomon and it really was helpful. “Beloved” was pink and “Lover” was blue. I didn’t highlight “Friends” but could have. It helped me really notice when the speaker changed. I may do this with this Bible and with Job, too.
(I just highlighted the name. It would take too long to highlight the whole section of what they said.)
Praying those of us who are behind, get caught up and those who are on track, stay on track!

Bible in 90 Days first week check-in with Mom's Toolbox

Hi, Group 29! My name is Leah and I am looking forward to this project, but also feeling wary because I know how easy it is for me to get behind in something like this.
I am married and a SAHM to three teens (ages 16, 14 and 12).
Very grateful to Kendra for mentoring us and praying for us. I like Sue’s idea of praying for the whole group to finish and grow and so I will do that too, as much as I can.
I have a blog that is mainly dormant, but I may blog about this regularly. I don’t do twitter.
